Around 200 members and friends attended the Thai-Nordic Association’s Crayfish Party 2025 at The Landmark Ballroom in Bangkok on Saturday, September 20th. What a fantastic evening!
Chef Philippe Gaudal of The Landmark and his team cooked 200 kg of crayfish the traditional Swedish way and offered other classics with a twist, like a deconstructed toast skagen and mini versions of princess cake.
Of course, there was kaviar for the bread, crispbread, and other delicacies like nubbesallad. There was plenty of akvavit to wash it down while singing snapsvisor, aka schnapps song.
In his welcome speech, Chairman Alexander Wetterling provided a brief history of the Crayfish Party, which is primarily celebrated in Sweden and Finland, as well as in Norway.
“In 1562, the Swedish King Erik the 14th demanded to get as many crayfish as possible for his sister Anna’s wedding. It’s also known that the King had crayfish in the moats surrounding Kalmar Castle, which also happens to be my hometown.
The beginning of actual Crayfish Parties happened in the 1800s, and the type of party we’re having tonight started to form during the 1900s. The Thai-Nordic Association started in 1920.”
Later in the evening, a lucky draw took place with amazing prizes, followed by dancing to the tunes of The Boss Band, and a late-night meal of goulash.
